TCI Powerglide high-capacity transmission drums are configured to use 10 Alto Red Eagle® frictions and Alto steels. This is a significant increase in lockup surface area and allows the drum to hold significantly more torque. These drums are made from a high-strength cast steel and have excess material removed to reduce rotating mass. Oil holes have been added to allow fluid to escape the drum and permit the piston to engage quicker. A standard needle bearing stepped into the front side reduces friction and drag. A high-strength, forged-steel clutch hub is built extra-tall to accommodate the additional clutch plates.
