There is no replacement for displacement, and torque is king. The GM Performance 502 c.i.d. HO 461 HP long block crate engine features cast iron 4-bolt mains with 1-piece rear main sealsawith approximately 8.75:1 compression, 461 hp at 5,100 rpm, and 558 lbs.-ft. of torque at 3,400 rpm. The blocks are fit with 1053 forged steel crankshafts, forged aluminum pistons, and forged steel shot-peened rods with 7/16 in. bolts.
Additional engine specs include:
- Hydraulic roller camshafts with .510 in. intake lift, .540 in. exhaust lift
- Duration at .050 in. for intake is 211 degrees, and 230 degrees for exhaust
- Cast iron cylinder heads with 118cc combustion chambersawith 2.19 in. intake, 1.88 in. exhaust valves
- Rock arms are installed with 1.7:1 ratio
- Aluminum dual plane intake manifolds
- Cast iron water pump, 6-quart oil pan, windage tray, 14 in. flexplate and torsional damper
All you need to provide is a 750 cfm carburetor, HEI ignition system, headers with 2 in. diameter by 30 in. long primaries, low-restriction mufflers, and a car with big sticky tires. These 502 HO long block crate engines require electric fuel pumps because the 502 Gen VI blocks have no mechanical fuel pump bosses. (This engine is not intended for marine use, and should only be used in 1978 and earlier pre-emissions street vehicles or any year off-road vehicles.)

| Notes | This engine is not designed, nor intended to be used in any marine applications. Designed for pre-1976 street vehicles or any off-road vehicle. Engines installed in vehicles registered and normally operated outside of the United States carry no warranty. Clutch linkage bosses are drilled and tapped, plus includes a provision for a mechanical fuel pump. This engine includes a 6 qt. truck oil pan. When installing a Gen V or Gen VI big-block in most Chevelle, Camaro, or similar chassis, the oil pan and pump must be modified or changed to clear the front crossmember. |
